The Rotary Peace Fellowship is designed for leaders with work experience in peace and development. Fellows are committed to community and international service and the pursuit of peace. Each year, The Rotary Foundation awards up to 50 fellowships for master’s degrees and up to 40 for certificate studies at premier universities. Each year, Rotary selects up to 90 peace and development leaders from around the world to receive fully funded academic fellowships to pursue a Professional Development Certificate Program or Masters Degree Program related to peace and conflict resolution and prevention at one of the participating peace centers around the world (USA, Japan, UK, Australia, Sweden, Uganda). Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centers program develops the capacity of peace and development professionals to become effective catalysts for peace. The fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and internship and field-study expenses. Since the program began in 2002, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 1,600 fellows who now work in over 140 countries. Many serve as leaders in governments; NGOs; education and research institutions; peacekeeping and law enforcement agencies; and international organizations like the United Nations and the World Bank. Rotary Peace Fellowships are awarded to up to 150 students each year. These fellowships are offered to pursue a Professional Development Certificate Program or Masters Degree Program related to peace and conflict resolution and prevention.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Rotary Peace Fellowship is designed for professionals with work experience in international development or peace and conflict prevention and resolution. Applicants should meet the following requirements:
  • Applicants should have three years of related work experience for the master’s program.
  • Candidates with disability are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants should have five years of related work experience for the certificate program and be able to explain how their plan to promote peace aligns with Rotary’s mission (Candidates for Makerere University must either be from Africa, have worked in Africa or work with African communities or initiatives outside the continent).
  • Be proficient in English (Master’s candidates whose first language is not English must provide English language standardized test scores).
  • Have a bachelor’s degree (Master’s candidates must provide a copy of their transcripts).
  • Candidates must have a leadership skills.
  • Candidates should have a strong commitment to cross-cultural understanding and peace worked in Africa, or work with African communities or initiatives outside the continent.
